Motril is a larger harbor city in Costa Tropical with more than 55.000 inhabitants. However, it is also a vivid trading city whose essential richness stems from the producers of exotic fruit and flowers. The city lies near the coastal way between America and Malaga and where the main street turns in direction towards Granada.

Most overlook Motril as a tourist city today, but it is unsurpassed as the center where you go shopping for groceries - especially the supermarkets in the peripheral of the city. It is really a supermarket in the best sense. You will find everything the heart desires in groceries. Since you are placed in the middle of the "kitchen garden" you can be sure that it is only fresh products that are sold here.

When in Motril you should take a look at the interesting attractions the city has to offers. An old sugar factory from the fifteenth century is decorated as a museum, Museo Preindustrial de Azucar - one of a kind in Europe - where hundreds of years ago spun "sweet gold" from the sugar canes. There is also the city hall of Motril, which was founded in 1631 in an impressive baroque style and the Duchess, Torre-Isabel's large establishment from ancient times which today is the community centre.

Motril is mostly known for its busy trade harbor where you can also take the ferry to Morocco. Thus, there is also a significant fishing harbor and a big magnificent Yacht Marina, Puerto Deportivo.

Along the coast lines of Motril you will find two lovely beaches, where Playa Granada is the calmest one with the golf course as its nearest neighbor. Playa Poniente is the most vivid with more water sport activities and a long beach promenade filled with restaurants and bars that are very popular in the lively summer nights. The beach La Joya is a nudist beach and at Playa de Calahonda you will find an almost untouched beach with deep and clear water, ideal for diving.

Motril has its own 18 hole golf course, Club de Golf Los Moriscos, if you are into golf. But there is a broad choice of leisure activities for everyone in every age group.
